Common questions on investor protection and investing
A statutory fund created under the Securities Amendment Act (2013) to protect investors in Zimbabwe’s capital markets.

A six-member Board of Directors appointed by SECZim, representing institutions such as the Judiciary, SECZ, ZSE, Pension Funds, Public Accountants, and the Ministry of Finance.

👥 Eligibility

  • Holders of securities dealt with by a licensed contributor.
  • Persons for whom a contributor holds securities.
  • Persons with a vested or contingent right to obtain securities from a participating firm.

Losses directly caused by insolvency or malpractice of a licensed contributor. Market losses due to price fluctuations are not covered.

💰 Compensation

Maximum payout is 10% of the Fund’s market value at the time of claims. If multiple claims are lodged, payouts are reduced proportionately.

Submit an application to the Fund Administrator (currently Minerva Risk Advisors) with proof of loss linked to malpractice or insolvency.

📚 Investor Education

Yes. The IPF collaborates with SECZim on awareness campaigns, investor literacy programmes, and capital market education strategies.

⚠️ Limitations & Risks

No. It only compensates for malpractice or insolvency, not for normal market risks.

The Fund protects investors if a licensed market intermediary fails to account for money, securities, or assets entrusted to them in a legitimate transaction. It handles intermediary risk, not market risk.

No. The IPF is not an insurance policy for share value drops, weak company earnings, or normal market movements. It only applies when a broker or dealer suffers financial failure or defaults on obligations.

The fund operates under the oversight of the SECZIM, which regulates Zimbabwe’s capital markets, licenses intermediaries, and supervises market participants.
